FAQs

  • What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying cause of disease. By shifting from the traditional disease centered focus to a more patient centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person not just an isolated set of symptoms. Chronic problems, often complex, requires a close therapeutic partnership between the patient and the doctor. Looking into the history and interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors to discover the underlying changes in your body’s physiology and biochemistry that cause your chronic symptoms. An individualized natural therapeutic approach will be specifically targeted at these underlying causes.

  • Why Functional Medicine?

There has been a sharp increase in the number of people suffering from complex, chronic diseases. The system of medicine practiced by most physicians is oriented towards acute care, the diagnosis and treatment of trauma or illnesses that are of short duration and in need of urgent care. I believe we have the best system in the world to treat these acute conditions.  Unfortunately, this acute care approach is ill-equipped to address complex, chronic disease. In most cases this model does not take into account the unique genetic makeup of each individual and does not allow time to explore aspects of lifestyle that has a direct influence on chronic disease. Functional Medicine is specifically designed to explore all possible causes of underlying dysfunction of chronic disease.
