Coronavirus 101

This new coronavirus is certainly a concern. You may remember SARS and MERS, both are coronavirus. United States CDC and the World health Association has taken proper precautions to prevent the spread, and early detection. All doctors have instructions from the CDC for the prevention of the spread of coronavirus.

Recently there’s been a sharp uptick in the number of cases in China. This is partially due to the use of MRI as well as including patients’ mild symptoms that fit into the criteria of this coronavirus. This will lower mortality, death rate, of this virus. As of writing this blog no one has died of this virus in the United States.

The recommendations of washing your hands frequently, not touching your face, and coughing into your elbow is certainly important. However there are many things that you can do to bolster your immune system. The human immune system is robust in preventing diseases, with many layers of protection starting from the skin. Practicing good lifestyle procedures such as proper rest and sleep, a plant-based diet, exercise, and stress reduction will improve your defense against coronavirus as well as other pathogens.

You must asked the question why are people who are exposed to the coronavirus have mild symptoms? The most probable answer is that their immune systems are healthy enough to combat the virus and prevent acute illness. There are other cases where there are carriers for certain diseases such as typhoid. The famous or infamous Typhoid Mary was a carrier for this disease but never became ill from typhoid. How is this possible? Again the most probable answer is that her immune system I was able to fend off acute disease.

The fear that is generated by this new disease certainly will decrease your ability to fight the disease. Empower yourself by choosing 1 or 2 things to improve your lifestyle so that your immune system will be better able protect you from all type of pathogens. And always practice washing your hands frequently, do not touch your face and cough into your elbow.
