6 Things You Need To Know If You Are Considering Chiropractic Care

For Acute and Chronic Pain

  • The medical journal Spine states (2013) “chiropractic manipulative therapy offers a significant advantage for decreasing pain and increasing physical functioning compared to standard care.”

  • The British Medical Journal states (2003) “the clinical outcomes measured shows that chiropractic manipulation resulted in faster recovery than physical therapy and general practitioner care. The total costs of manipulative therapy is about one third the cost of physical therapy or general practitioner care.”

  • The journal of Manipulative Therapy and Physiological Therapeutics states (2000) “patients with chronic lower back pain treated by Chiropractors shows greater improvement and satisfaction that patients treated with by family physicians.”

For Headaches

  • The Duke Evidence Report states (2001) “cervical spinal manipulation was associated with significant improvements in headache outcomes in trials involving patients with neck pain and headache.”

  • The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics states (1995) “the results of this study shows that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches. Patients who received spinal manipulation therapy experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in all major outcomes in contrast patients that received amitriptyline therapy.”

For Neck Pain

  • The Annals of Internal Medicine (2012) “in a study funded by the National Institutes of Health showed that after 12 weeks 57% of those treated by doctors of chiropractic and 48% who received exercises reported at least 75% reduction in pain compared to 33% of people in the medication group. After one year approximately 53% of the chiropractic patients continue to report at least a 75% reduction in pain.”

Cost Effectiveness

  • The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (2016) “older Medicare patients with chronic low back pain and other medical problems who received spinal manipulation from a chiropractic physician had lower costs of care and shorter episodes of back pain than patients of other treatment groups. Patients who received a combination of chiropractic and medical care had the next to lowest Medicare costs, and patients who received medical care alone incurred the highest costs.

  • The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics states (2016) “in a study funded by the North Carolina State Health Plan showed that care by a doctor of chiropractic alone or in conjunction with a medical doctor incurred appreciably fewer costs that a medical doctor or by physical therapist.

  • The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics states (2010). A two-year study from Blue Cross and Blue Shield showed “lower back pain initiated with the doctor of chiropractic saves 20 to 40% in healthcare costs when compared to care initiated through a medical doctor.”

In Comparison to Other Treatments

  • The journal Spine states (2015) “manipulative therapy provides a greater short-term reduction in disability and pain compared to medical care.”

  • The Journal Spine states (2012) “reduced odds of surgery were observed for those whose 1st provider was a chiropractor.”

  • The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics states (2005) “acute and chronic chiropractic patients experience better outcomes in pain, functional disability, and patient satisfaction.”

  • The Annals of Internal Medicine states (2002) “in comparing manipulative therapy, physical therapy and care provided by a general practitioner shows that manipulative therapy scored better than physical therapy in all outcome measures. Patients receive manipulative therapy had fewer absences from work that patients receiving physical therapy.”

Patient Satisfaction

  • The American Journal of Public Health states (2002) “chiropractic patients were found to be more satisfied with their back care provider after 4 weeks of treatment than were medical patients. The results from observational studies suggest that back pain patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than medical care. Additionally, the studies concluded that patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care then than they were with physical therapy after 6 weeks.”

All of these studies were not from chiropractic sources. When considering chiropractic care listen to expert advice.
