How does the immune system of plants improve our health?

COVID 19, Monkey Pox, and now Polio (poliomyelitis). It is surprising with so much research on improved lifestyles having benefit to the immune system that is not mentioned anywhere in the media. I am not anti-vaccines. However, the pharmaceutical companies’ primary goal is to make money. Now that we primed the pump with endless dollars for COVID vaccines, the pharmaceutical companies have enough funds to develop vaccines for every variant of every virus and telling us there is no alternative. 

If you are computer savvy, Google the National Library of Medicine, and search for lifestyle changes. You will be shocked at how much information there is and nobody’s mentioning it. More information than vaccines. 

What we eat immediately affects our health. Early in functional medicine food was described as messengers to body function. One article that I reviewed for this email is from the peer reviewed journal, Oxidative Medicine Cell Longevity. In this research paper they studied Plant Polyphenols. Plant polyphenols are part of the defense mechanism against ultraviolet radiation or aggression by pathogens. Polyphenols are the plants immune system. They are antioxidants. The authors state, ” epidemiological studies and associated meta-analysis strongly suggests that long time consumption of diets rich in plant polyphenols offer some protection against development of cancers, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and neurogenic degenerative diseases.”  All of this is done through a robust immune system. 

Polyphenols/phytonutrients/antioxidants are all the same things. They can be found in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, and teas. Phytonutrients, come in all assorted colors; green, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, and white all have their own unique phytonutrients. 

Try to integrate 1 or 2 colors per day into your diet. It is not as hard as you think. You just must do it. It is always best to get your nutrients from food.
