2 Overlooked Ways To Deal with Depression
Depression has a significant impact on health. The rate of depression was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The most alarming statistic is that the rate of depression has increased significantly in adolescent age 12-17 years. The lock down in response to the pandemic as well as social media has left our society detached from society itself. It is amazing to me the level of cell phone addiction. Locked in a box of virtual reality. Headfirst down the rabbit hole.
There are many counseling techniques as well as pharmaceutical that try to deal with this problem. There are 2 other methods that have been overlooked. The Gut-Brain connection and the Leaky Gut-Leaky Brain.
Most know the leaky gut scenario. Due to are poor eating habits, chemicals that we consume in our produce, certain medications and many other factors, breakdown protection of the gut to block the absorption of harmful factors that cause numerous health conditions as well as increasing level of inflammation detrimental to good health. By eating a clean diet, high fiber (Organic), and use of probiotics a leaky gut can be healed.
The brain also has a protective barrier to prevent harmful chemicals or byproducts that will negatively influence brain health. Research has strongly indicated depression and degenerative brain conditions are associated with a leaky brain. Interestingly, a leaky gut is associated with a leaky brain. Fix the leaky gut and you will fix a leaky brain.
The gut and the brain have direct communication via the vagus nerve. This is a 2-way neurological connection between the gut and the brain. The food eat, the type of bacteria, and numerous gastrointestinal conditions (The GI environment) influence the function of the brain. Conversely, anxiety can cause “butterflies in your stomach.”
Most likely the gut-brain connection and the vagus nerve occur simultaneously. To be perfectly honest this is my opinion. However, I do not think there would be opposition.
The bottom line-FIX THE GUT! Please use good judgment if you plan to research how to fix your gut online. If you have any questions, contact me at robertromanellidc@gmail.com
